  • Erin Wiegand, daughter of Jeffrey Wiegand, team leader, Glen Lyn Plant, Glen Lyn, Va. She is a senior at Giles High School and plans to study psychology or international studies.

American Electric Power (NYSE:AEP) has awarded educational scholarships to 34 graduating high school students who plan to enter college in the fall.A total of 333 children of AEP employees applied for the scholarships. Each of the winning scholars of the 2001 AEP Educational Awards will receive $6,000 over a three-year period:
* $2,500 for the freshman year in college
* $2,000 for the sophomore year
* $1,500 for the junior year

Winners were selected by two independent scholastic judges based on each student´s class rank, GPA, SAT scores, recommendations, autobiographical presentation, special qualities or talents, leadership abilities, extracurricular activities and citizenship.AEP has granted 1,311 educational awards totaling nearly $4.6 million since the program began in 1955.
